Dear Aleksei Ivanovich and Andrei Andreevich,

I send my warmest greetings to you both, and to all the organizers of the ceremony honouring the service and sacrifices of our nation’s soldiers during the Great War of 1914-1918, as well as the doctors and nurses, who saved the lives of so many of the wounded at the Infirmary, which was located in the building of the former People’s House, now occupied by the Istra Drama Theatre.

It is for me a source of special joy that the plaque depicts not only the soldiers who received care here, but also the Holy Royal Passion-Bearer Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, who served during the war as a nurse. Thus, this plaque also pays tribute to the memory of the Empress, and honours the service of all the daughters of Russia, who were inspired by her example to serve.

I, along with my son and heir, Grand Duke George of Russia, and his spouse, Her Serene Highness Princess Victoria Romanovna, extend our good wishes to the artists and directors of the Istra Drama Theatre, the creators of the commemorative plaque, and all participants in this unveiling ceremony, that they enjoy good health, peace, prosperity, creative success, and God’s help and blessing in preserving the artistic heritage of Russia.

MARIA

H.I.H. THE GRAND DUCHESS MARIA OF RUSSIA
