2022-12-25 MEMORY ETERNAL! General A. F. Maslov (1953-2022)

The Chancellery of the Head of the Russian Imperial House, H.I.H. The Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, is saddened to announce the death on 25 December 2022 of General of the Army Aleksei Fedorovich Maslov—Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces of the Russian Federation from 2004 to 2008, and Knight First Class of the Imperial Military Order of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. He was 70 years old.

 

General Aleksei Fedorovich Maslov was born on 23 September 1953 in the Kursk Region. He entered the military in 1970. He graduated from the Kharkov Guards Higher Tank School (1974), the Marshal R. Ia. Malinovskii Military Academy of Armored Forces (1984), and the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (1998).

 

He served in the Carpathian Military District, in the Central Group Command in the former Czechoslovakia, and in the Volga-Urals, Urals, Trans-Baikal, Siberian, and Northern Caucasus Military Districts.

 

He was promoted to Major-General (1995), Lieutenant-General (2001), Colonel-General (2004), and finally General of the Army (2006).

 

From 2003 to 2004, he served as the First Deputy Commander of Forces in the Northern Caucasus Military District.

 

In 2004, by presidential decree, he was named to the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces of the Russian Federation, a position he held until 2008.

 

From 2008 to 2011, he served as the Chief Military Representative of the Russian Federation to NATO.

 

General Maslov transferred to the Reserves in 2011, and became a special representative to the Uralvagonzavod (Urals Military Vehicles Factory) for military and technology cooperation.

 

The Head of the Russian Imperial House, H.I.H. The Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, paid tribute to the services of General of the Army A. F. Maslov to the nation by awarding him the Imperial Military Order of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, First Class (2012).

 

The Grand Duchess, her son and heir, The Tsesarevich and Grand Duke George of Russia, and his spouse, Princess Victoria Romanovna, extend their deepest sympathies to General Maslov’s family, friends, and colleagues.

 

May the Lord remember his newly reposed servant Aleksei in His Kingdom.
