FROM THE HEAD OF THE RUSSIAN IMPERIAL HOUSE

It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of President Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan. I extend to President Karimov’s family and all the people of Uzbekistan my deepest condolences.

President Karimov will long be remembered as a prominent statesman who made an enormous contribution to the development of his country; as a wise leader who helped establish the national, religious, and civil peace and stability of his country in tumultuous times; and as an experienced politician who worked in many ways to preserve his nation’s cultural and historical ties with Russia and other countries, which are forever linked to each other by their common historical experience.

I will always remember with gratitude the kind support President Karimov displayed for the Russian Imperial House, which I saw firsthand during my visit to Uzbekistan in 2014.

Mourning together with the people of Uzbekistan, I wish to express my hope that President Karimov’s legacy will be carefully preserved and will flourish and grow.
