The Head of the Russian Imperial House, H.I.H. The Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, expressed her deepest condolences to the family and friends of the renowned Russian film director, National Artist of the RSFSR and Ukraine, Georgi Emilievich Yungvald-Khilkevich, who passed away on November 11 of this year.

The Grand Duchess’s condolences were conveyed to N. S. Mirzaeva, the director’s widow, by Alexander N. Zakatov, the Director of the Chancellery of the Russian Imperial House, after the funeral in the Church of the Holy New Martyr Antipas of Pergamum on Kolymazhnyi Dvor. Also attending the funeral was the head of the Legal Office of H.I.H.’s Chancellery, G. Iu. Lukianov, who had organized with Georgi Yungvald-Khilkevich a press conference on the legal process leading to the recognition of the Holy Royal Passion-Bearer Emperor Nicholas II and members of his family as victims of political repression.

The text of the Grand Duchess’s note of condolence follows:

FROM THE HEAD OF THE RUSSIAN IMPERIAL HOUSE

To N. S. Mirzaeva,

Dear Nadira Sultanovna,

It was with deep sorrow that I learned the sad news of the passing of your husband, the renowned Russian film director Georgi Emilievich Yungvald-Khilkevich.

I send to you, to Georgi Emilievich’s daughters Natalia and Nina, and to all your relatives and friends our deepest and most sincere condolences.

I very much appreciated Georgi Emilievich’s extraordinary talent as a filmmaker, and I remember with enormous gratitude the moral and enthusiastic support he lent to our legal efforts to establish justice for my most August relatives and their faithful servants, who were brutally executed by the godless authorities during the years of the Revolution.

May the Lord grant rest to the soul of the reposed servant of God Georgi in the abode of the righteous.

I remain ever yours respectfully and affectionately,

H.I.H. The Grand Duchess Maria of Russia
