2015-10-10 The Head of the House of Romanoff Attended a Requiem Service for H.R.H. Prince Kardam of Bulgaria, Prince of Turnovo, the Eldest Son of Tsar Simeon II

In Madrid, in the church in the Royal Monastery of St. Jerome, Orthodox clergy served a requiem service (or panikhida) for the Heir to the Bulgarian throne, Prince Kardam of Turnovo, the eldest son of Tsar Simeon II. Prince Kardam passed away on the Feast of the Annunciation of the Most Pure Mother of God, March 25/April 7, 2015, and was buried in the St. Jerome cemetery.

The requiem service was attended by the entire Bulgarian royal family, led by Their Majesties, King Simeon II and Queen Margarita; by the royal family of Spain—including Their Majesties King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, Their Majesties King Juan Carlos (who abdicated the throne in 2014) and Queen Sophia, Their Royal Highnesses the Infanta Elena (sister of King Felipe VI), Infanta Margarita and Infanta Pilar (sisters of King Juan Carlos)—and by H.I.H. the Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, who lives in Spain.

Others attending the service included: Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands; Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands; H.R.H. Princess Laurentiena of the Netherlands (wife of H.R.H. Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands); the Head of the Portuguese Royal House, Dom Duarte Pio, Duke of Braganza, and his wife Isabel, Duchess of Braganza; the Head of the Ducal House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Prince Hubertus Michael; the son of H.R.H. Princess Marie Louise of Bulgaria (the sister of King Simeon II), His Serene Highness Prince Hermann Friedrich of Leiningen; H.R.H. Crown Prince Paul of Greece; H.R.H. Princess Beatrice of Orleans; the Bulgarian ambassador to Spain, Kostadin Kodzhabashev; the French and American ambassadors to Spain; prominent figures in Bulgarian society; and members of European aristocratic houses.
