From the Head of the Russian Imperial House

To His Grace Bishop Tikhon of Podolsk

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the “Foundation in Support for the Construction of Churches in Moscow”

Your Grace,

I offer you my heartfelt thanks for the letter you sent to me on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the callingof my ancestor, Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich, to the Russian throne by the Great Church Council and Assembly of the Land of 1613.

I am deeply touched by your kind words about our Dynasty’s service and its contribution to the spreading of the Light of the Christian Orthodox Faith.

It gave me great pleasure to visit the construction site in Moscow of the Church of the Holy Royal Passion-Bearers. I am convinced that the plan to build churches in new areas of the capital and across our nation will continue to unfold and will be a source of enormous spiritual and moral support to our countrymen.

Valuing very much your contributions to this important work, I am pleased to send to you herewith our Imperial medals “The Anniversary of the Nation’s Victory” and “The 400th Anniversary of the House of Romanoff,” along with the corresponding documentation affirming your right to wear them.

Asking your blessing and your holy prayers for me and for my son and heir, Grand Duke Georgii of Russia, I assure you of our continuing favor and deepest respect,

H.I.H. Grand Duchess Maria of Russia

Madrid, March 21, 2013

His Grace Bishop Tikhon thanked Grand Duchess Maria of Russia for the honor given him. “Our glorious Russian tsars and their descendants have devoted their entire lives to the nation, and to their last breaths have served as an example of selfless service to Russia and of familial love and devotion. May the Grand Duchess be strengthened in her activities, which so much benefit the Russian people,” His Grace said.

We remind our readers that the Church of the Holy Royal Passion-Bearers discussed above is being built in accordance with the “200 Churches” Project, and that two other churches honoring Emperor Nicholas II and his familyare also planned. On March 8, 2013, the Head of the House of Romanoff visited the building site in the Voikovskii neighborhood of Moscow, where she prayed in the temporary chapel on the site and met with the Orthodox faithful who gathered on that occasion.
