The Head of the Russian Imperial House, Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, Arrived in Ingushetia.

Today, the Head of the Russian Imperial House of Romanoff, Grand Duchess Maria of Russia, arrived in Ingushetia. The distinguished guest was met on the tarmac by the President of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, who presented Her Imperial Highness with a large bouquet of flowers.

Following an old custom, Her Imperial Highness was greeted with platters bearing samples of the national cuisine of Ingushetia, including bread (lepeshka) and sweets (halva). The Grand Duchess and the President of Ingushetia met briefly at the airport’s VIP salon. Also present were the Chief Federal Inspector for the Republic of Ingushetia, Vladimir Trubitsyn, and his wife, and the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mukharbek Didigov.

At the airport, the Grand Duchess laid a wreath at the monument to Sulambek Oskanov, the first “Hero of the Russian Federation,” after whom the airport in Magas is named.

The Grand Duchess’s itinerary has been arranged so as to showcase for Her Imperial Highness the history, culture, and traditions of the Ingush people, and the economic and social changes underway at present in the Republic.

The Russian Imperial Flag will be flown at the Magas Airport, where the Grand Duchess landed, at her place of residence in the city of Magas, and also in all the locations that she will be visiting.

Grand Duchess Maria of Russia was invited to Ingushetia last summer for the opening of the monument to the history of the Ingush people, which depicts her relative, Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich. During the First World War, he commanded the Savage Division of volunteers from the Caucasus.

Issued by the Press Service of the President of Ingushetia
