Today, March 13, 2020 (February 28 according to the Julian Calendar) is the birthday of H.I.H. The Tsesarevich and Grand Duke George of Russia, the son and heir of the Head of the Imperial House of Russia, H.I.H. The Grand Duchess Maria of Russia.

On March 8, 2020, on the Sunday of Orthodoxy, H.I.H. The Grand Duke George of Russia and his father, H.R.H. Prince Michael Pavlovich of Prussia, attended the Divine Liturgy and took Holy Communion in the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in the village of Uspenskoe, in the Odintsovskii district of the Moscow Region.  The service was officiated by the rector of the parish, Archpriest Ilia Nastevich.  This was Prince Michael Pavlovich’s first visit to Moscow.

On March 12, at the Novospasskii  Monastery, in the Church of St. Roman the Melodist—the mausoleum of the Romanoff boyars and the burial place of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich—Grand Duke George and Prince Michael Pavlovich attended a Moleben, or intercessory prayer service, for the health of the Head of the Imperial House of Russia and her Heir.  A brief Lityia service followed, at which Emperor Alexander III was commemorated (marking the 175th anniversary of his birth on March 10).

The Moleben and Lityia services were officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan Dionisii of Voskresensk, First Vicar of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia; Hieromonk Nikon (Levachev-Belavenets); and Hierodeacon Sofronii (Mikhalsky).

At the conclusion of the services, Hieromonk Nikon gave a short welcoming speech to the Grand Duke.

Then Alexander Zakatov, the Director of the Chancellery of the Head of the Imperial House of Russia, on behalf of all the members of the Chancellery and other fellow countrymen, presented the Grand Duke an icon of the Holy Martyrs and Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian, on whose feast day, November 1/14, 2019, His Imperial Highness escaped injury in an automobile accident in St. Petersburg.

Dmitrii P. Dobrolyubov, a member of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society, then presented the Grand Duke an icon of the Holy Great Martyr and Victory-Bearer George, His Imperial Highness’s patron saint.
